Velymozhna Pani Khorunzha (Her Excellency Lady Standard Bearer) is an honorary title rooted in Kozak tradition, associated with safeguarding the banner — the symbol of honor, unity, and collective spirit.
It derives from the rank of standard-bearer and represents trust, responsibility, and inner strength.
Velymozhna Pani Khorunzha symbolically carries the banner in times of trial and in peace — as a sign of loyalty to principles, dignity, and service to the common cause.
She is entrusted with preserving tradition, memory, and spiritual unity.
Historically, the term referred not only to the standard-bearer’s wife, but also to worthy and accomplished women who supported others and held their communities together.
In the twentieth century, among the Sich Riflemen, renowned women standard-bearers included Olena Stepaniv and Sofia Halechko, who officially held the military rank of Khorunzhyi and served in active duty.
This honorary title befits a resilient, responsible, and strong-willed woman — one who can safeguard honor, inspire others, and stand as a pillar of her community.
